Bar/Restaurant Manager - The Hive Social Lounge and Board Game Bar

Working Manager – $18-$22/hr + tips

The Hive Social Lounge and Board Game Bar is dedicated to creating positive, supportive, and meaningful work through community-building, respect and fun. We are seeking a working Bar/Restaurant Manager with a positive upbeat attitude to help with day-to-day operations.

The primary goals of this position are to use your people, organizational, creative and management skills to: help provide an excellent service atmosphere for guests, to support a satisfying work environment for the Hive service team, and to drive sales through increased programming and fun new offerings.

Experience in the wide world of board games is a definite asset.

Hours of work are Tuesday – Saturday, 3:30pm to close (11pm/12am).

This will be a fulfilling job for the right person. We literally sell fun and have the best customers and staff. This position will be well-suited for someone looking for a long-term position with opportunities to develop in many different areas: management, hospitality, basic human resources, marketing, event/product planning and more.

As the successful candidate, you will begin by working service shifts at our Hive location performing all Front of House duties including hosting, bartending, serving in order to familiarize yourself with the business from the ground up, getting to know our customers, your teammates and workplace culture along the way. Once you are feeling comfortable and confident, you will work closely with the Owner/General Manager and senior staff to take on the following additional tasks:

People 

You will ensure that we are providing consistently positive guest experiences, leading by example and motivating team members with supportive coaching. You bring out the best in your co-workers, and you delegate effectively. You will be encouraged to identify and communicate areas for improvement wherever possible. Ultimately, you will be responsible for overseeing training, monitoring performance and coaching of up to 10 employees.

Creativity 

You will use your creative skills to:

  • Work with the kitchen and service team to develop fun new events, promos, cocktails and food specials.

Organization 

You will use your organizational skills to:

  • Maintain inventory of supplies
  • Modify procedures and update the HH handbook where necessary
  • Ensure health and safety regulations are followed and documented
  • Maintain HR logs

Essential requirements for this position include:

  • Food service management experience 
  • Food Safety and Responsible Beverage Service certification 
  • Genuine passion for service and hospitality
  • Ability to manage and motivate up to 10 unique individuals
  • Previous interest in or commitment to learning about board games
  • Proven customer service record with the ability to make smart decisions on the fly
  • Ability to effectively resolve difficult or stressful situations
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills 
  • Intermediate or high-level technical and numeracy skills
  • Ability to work on your feet for up to 10 hours

Experience preferred in the following areas:

  • Basic Human Resources concepts and labour regulations
  • Service recovery and de-escalation best practices
  • Small event planning
  • Social media

Full-time Daytime Host/Server - Honeycomb (the PEI Paint-Your-Own-Pottery Place)

HOSTS/SERVER – $16/hr + tips

Honeycomb PEI is dedicated to creating positive, supportive, and meaningful work through community-building, respect and fun. We are seeking a reliable, friendly and enthusiastic Full-time Host/Server for our daytime shift.

Start times vary between 11:00am to 2:30pm, 5 days per week. Open Tuesday – Sunday.

Job duties for this role include but are not limited to:

  • Greeting, seating and directing guests 
  • Introducing new guests of all ages to the pottery-painting process 
  • Maintaining the pottery station and paint/supply inventories
  • Taking and preparing food and drink orders while maintaining strict health and safety standards
  • Answering questions in person and by phone re: process, pottery status, reservations, etc.
  • Ensuring that excellent service and a good environment contribute to a great guest experience for dine-in and take-out customers
  • General cleaning and sanitizing tables/chairs, dishes, floors, counters, appliances, bathrooms, etc.
  • Deep cleaning as needed

Essential requirements for this position include:

  • 2+ years experience in a food service environment
  • Food Safety and Responsible Beverage Service certification (must be 19+)
  • Previous interest in or commitment to learning about the pottery-painting process
  • Proven customer service record with the ability to make smart decisions on the fly
  • Ability to effectively resolve difficult or stressful situations
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills 
  • Intermediate or high-level technical and numeracy skills
  • Ability to work on your feet for up to 10 hours

Are you a fun and friendly natural entertainer/people person with a bit of hustle and a get sh*t done attitude? Do you have a genuine interest and enthusiasm for board games and/or pop culture? What about great manners, high energy, top-notch customer service skills and a good sense of humour? If you said yes to all of the above (and also happen to be looking for an amazing job), we want to hear from you!

We are currently looking for part-time Front of House team members to join our positive and hard-working team. 

Absolute MUSTS include a positive attitude, an interest in board games, being 19+ and the ability to work Saturdays.
